With the noticeable increase in electric cars in our area, the Town of Danville will soon have two public electric vehicle charging stations, bringing Danville another option for Green Living made easier. The first charging station is expected to be open in March and will be located in the municipal parking lot at the Clocktower in downtown Danville. The second station is set for the Railroad Avenue parking lot and will open this summer. Both of these charging stations will charge a small, as yet to be determined, fee for charging your electric vehicle.
Danville already has two electric vehicle charging stations for use of the town’s electric vehicles, which were purchased last summer. Four Ford Focus electric cars are in use now, two for parking enforcement and two for building inspections. The charging stations for these cars will be getting two more charging ports each, increasing the ability to easily charge electric vehicles. Danville’s solar panel covered parking lot houses the current stations. The town’s electric vehicles emit zero emissions and help save approximately 100 miles in gas per day, a significant savings for the town and decrease in fossil fuel reliance.
The charging stations will be run by Chargepoint, one of the largest electric vehicle station networks in the country. Danville will consider adding more public charging stations based on assessed usage and community demands. The cost of these two new public electric vehicle charging stations will be approximately $39,000 and will include a five-year warranty as well as five years of network fees and the activation fee. The cost for the new chargers for the town charging stations will include the same warranty and fees and be approximately $25,000. The fees charged for the public station will help defer the costs.
In looking at the increase in electric vehicle use around the region and consumer demand for public charging stations, it is clear that we need more. Currently there are no public stations between San Ramon and Walnut Creek along I-680, so to have public electric vehicle stations added in Danville is great news for businesses and the community alike. This is just one more way that shows Danville is a wonderful place to live. If you are ready to sell or buy your home, the Ray Marquez can help you find the right home for your lifestyle.
